El Corte Inglés Spain: number of stores in 2023, by segment

El Corte Inglés is one of the world’s leading department stores, generating a revenue of over 14 billion euros in 2024. Out of its several business lines, the group’s retail segment had the highest number of establishments in Spain by the end of the fiscal year 2023-2024, with 592 physical outlets. In contrast, their business line SICOR Groups only had 12 shops that year.

The group’s department stores ranked as the business line that featured the most revenue in 2023, with over 12 billion euros that were generated through El Corte Inglés retail stores. Second on the list was the group’s travel agency, which generated revenues valued at nearly two billion euros that year. The El Corte Inglés group’s net income plummeted in 2020, but rebounded in the following years.

The El Corte Inglés group increased its headcount slightly in recent years, employing over 80 thousand people in 2022, in contrast to its low record of 52.3 thousand employees in 2014. 97 percent of its workforce are employed on permanent contracts, while the rest are temporary workers.
