According to data, the main source used to generate electricity was thermal energy (200,305.3 gigawatt hours), followed by hydroelectric energy (37,556.7 gigawatt hours). The usage of wind and photovoltaics for electricity generation was still inferior compared to thermal and hydro energy, but the least used fuel in 2016 was the geothermal one (5,821.5 gigawatt hours).
