The U.S. transportation sector produced one billion metric tons of carbon dioxide (GtCO₂) from motor gasoline consumption in 2024. Emissions from motor gasoline have seen little change since 1990. By comparison, U.S. transportation emissions from diesel consumption have increased by more than 60 percent since 1990, to around 440 MCO₂ in 2024.
