Stromer is owned by the Switzerland-headquartered myStromer Group and was acquired by Naxicap in 2021. The second most popular brand was Riese & Mueller, which sold just over a quarter of the number of speed pedelecs sold by Stromer.

A speed pedelec is a faster electric bicycle with a maximum speed of 45 km/h. In the Netherlands, a helmet, registration and insurance are mandatory for these kind of bicycles. Furthermore, owners of a speed pedelec are obliged to follow the same traffic rules as that of mopeds.
