In China, the number of science and engineering (S&E) bachelor's degrees awarded grew from around 360,000 in 2000 to around 1.8 million in 2018 - more than the 811,000 S&E bachelor’s degrees awarded in the United States that year. Meanwhile, the highest number was awarded in India, reaching 2.3 million degrees.

* To facilitate international comparisons, the source compares 'first university degrees', which are defined as terminal undergraduate degree programs. This definition includes degrees classified within level 6 (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) or level 7 (master’s degree or equivalent, including “long first degrees”) in the 2011 International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED), which was developed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Data for India was only available from 2011.
Data for Brazil only available from 2004.
