After peaking in 2023, venture capital (VC) investments in Eruope decreased significantly in 2022 and 2023. In 2023, approximately 13 billion euros were invested in the continent, with financings in the start-up stage accounting for half of the total.

Start up as 'funding provided to companies, once the product or service is fully developed, to start mass production/distribution and to cover initial marketing.'

Later-stage financing as 'financing provided for an operating company, which may or may not be profitable.'
