In 2024, the number of full-time independent workers in the United States increased. However, the number of part-time and occasional independent workers saw a slight decrease. There were about 36.5 million occasional independent workers in the United States, an increase from 15.8 million in 2020.
*Occasional independent workers are defined as people who work independently at least once a month. Part-time independent workers are defined as people who regularly work up to 15 hours per week. ***Full-time independent workers are defined as people who regularly work over 15 hours per week on an independent basis.
