In 2023, the employment in the agricultural sector as share of total employment in Mexico decreased by 0.7 percentage points (-5.53 percent) compared to 2022. Therefore, the share in Mexico saw its lowest number in that year with 11.96 percent. Employment in agriculture is the share of individuals working in agriculture, hunting, forestry, and fishing in order to produce a good or service for profit or pay from the total employed. The data covers people working in a certain period, or not working as a result of being temporarily absent from a job, or in a working-time arrangement.
The agricultural sector includes forestry, hunting, and fishing, as well as cultivation of crops and livestock production. Employment is defined as persons of working age who were engaged in any activity to produce goods or provide services for pay or profit, whether at work during the reference period or not at work due to temporary absence from a job, or to working-time arrangement.
