Between 2012 and 2023, the number of children enrolled in kindergartens in Italy decreased. In the school year 2012/2013, about 1.7 million pupils were enrolled in kindergartens across Italy. However, the number of children enrolled dropped to 1.29 million in 2022-2023. There is an evident correlation between the declining enrollment numbers and Italy's decreasing birth rate.
